Questions:
Answers:
1. How can I get an answer to a question that is not found here? Top
Just send us an email at info@orcasdesign.com and we'll get you an answer. |
2. How long is my septic permit valid? Top
Approved designs are normally valid 4 yrs. from the issue date. At that point, depending on current regulations, they may be renewable for another 4 years. Renewal may be requested by submitting a request letter and fee to the SJC Health Department, but is not guaranteed. If you had a (repair) design completed then that particular permit is only good for one year after it is issued. If you are unsure about the type of design you have you can check on your permit for the design number and if there is the letter "R" in the design number then you have a repair design. |
3. I have an existing permit, but I would like to build more bedrooms. Top
Whether your permitted septic system is installed or not, the SJC will require that a new septic permit be obtained. In order to add bedrooms, you will need to have a septic designer evaluate the site, draw up a septic design, and obtain permit approval from the SJC Health Department.
Orcas Sewage Design will gladly submit your design to the San Juan County Health Department for you. Go to our "Place an Order" page and click on the design form to order yours today.

5. We are building a house. How do we obtain a septic system? Top
If your lot is under sewer district jurisdiction, you will need to contact your local sewer district to inquire about hooking to the nearest sewer main.
If you are outside of that area, your first step will be to have a septic designer perform soil tests to determine the type of system suitable to your property. During an onsite consultation, the designer will also evaluate the topography, determine the system capacity needed, and discuss where you hope to locate your home or other buildings. It is important to have this evaluation performed before a well is drilled on the lot, especially if there is limited topsoil, as the area surrounding the well cannot serve as a drainfield location.
Once sufficient data has been gathered, your septic design can be created. Orcas Sewage Design will gladly submit your design to the San Juan County Health Department for you. Once you receive your approved permit, you may wish to obtain bids from various contractors for installation of your system. Go to our "Place an Order" page and click on the design form to order yours today.
